The Southern California Care Community, (SoCalCC) offers free, community based healthcare clinics throughout San Diego County. Run by licensed medical professionals and nursing students, we serve the uninsured residents of our community in a respectful and compassionate manner.
We are a fully licensed medical clinic and are recipients of the NAFCC Gold Rating Quality Award, 2020.

Paradise Valley Hospital is the South Bay's oldest hospital. In fact, we are the second oldest hospital in all of San Diego County, and the largest employer in National City. Visiting a Patient
- UC San Diego Thornton Hospital : visiting hours are 24 hours a day unless otherwise indicated by the patient's physician or nursing staff

- Intensive Care Unit , 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (Visitors may be asked to step out of the ICU briefly for a shift change at 7 p.m.). Learn more about visiting a patient in the ICU
- Maternity Unit : Fathers, family, friends and support people are welcome any time. We encourage siblings to visit as well; please be sure they are fully immunized and have no signs of illness.
- We offer “Siesta Time” from 1 p.m to 4 p.m. During this time, mothers and babies are given a chance to rest with minimal interruptions.
- All visitors must stop at the nurses' station to sign in and get a visitor identification badge.
At UC San Diego Medical Center and UC San Diego Thornton Hospital:
Family and support person presence will be encouraged and maintained at the most liberal level commensurate with safe patient care practices and facility safety requirements.
- Visitation will be individualized to meet family and patient needs, allowing each patient/surrogate decision-maker the right to identify who is important in being a part of their care and whom they would like present with them.
- All staff will facilitate family/support persons presence and involvement in care as much as possible, orchestrating involvement in the safest possible manner for all involved.
- If a family member or any other Medical Center guest becomes disruptive to the point where staff reasonably determine that the person's presence would endanger the health or safety anyone, they will use the available resources to maintain safety and security. Such resources include, but are not limited to, charge nurse, nurse
manager, house supervisor, physician, pastoral care, social worker and/or security services. - Children under the age of 18 must be supervised and may never be left unattended.
- To maintain the safety and welfare of all persons at UC San Diego Health System after hours, all guests who remain in or arrive at the medical center after 8:00 p.m. will be identified with an identification (ID) pass specific to the nursing unit where their loved-one is being cared for. The pass is effective for one night only. No one under 18 years of age may stay overnight (exception – newborn baby staying with mother).
Cellular Phone Restrictions
Cell phones can interfere with medical equipment and may not be used in patient care areas. Our staff will direct visitors to public telephones or areas where they may use cell phones.Café
Visitors are welcome to dine in the café, located on the first floor of each hospital. Food and beverages may be taken out of the café in covered containers provided near the cashier stands. Meals are served at the following times:

Vending Machines
Food and beverage vending machines are located in the café and are accessible 24 hours a day. Beverages, ice cream, snacks, sandwiches, and meals ready for microwave reheating are available for your convenience.
Vending machines are also located in various waiting areas on each floor within the hospitals.
Meal Delivery
Guests are invited to enjoy a guest or gourmet meal delivered directly to the patient's room. There is a nominal fee for this service.
To request meal delivery, call the Support Service Call Center at 619-543-3255, or ext. 33255 from within the hospital.
Automated Teller Machine (ATM)
The ATM at the Hillcrest medical center is located on the first floor hallway by the Emergency Department.
At UC San Diego Thornton Hospital, the ATM machine is in the first floor lobby near the dining room.
Sending a Gift to a Patient
Reading materials, flowers, balloons, stamps, toiletries and gift items are all available at the gift shops located inside each hospital.
